La Palma is the fifth largest of the Canary Islands witha an area of over 700sq kilometres. Population is approximately 86,000 (2007) and the capital is Santa Cruz de la Palma. La Palma is a volcanic formation with peaks as high as 2400m. To the north of La Palma is the largest erosion crater in the world, with a width of over 8km and over 1400m deep.
